A wanted burglary suspect has mocked police with a picture of himself next to a police van – to replace the mugshot “he didn’t like”.

A snapshot of Matthew Maynard first appeared in a newspaper at the weekend, among a group of others police want to track down.
After seeing the snap, he called the South Wales Evening Post, “saying he was not happy with the picture and that he would send in another”, said a spokesman for the paper.
Maynard then used his mobile phone to provide a new image – cheekily showing him standing in front of a police van – which the paper subsequently published.

The 23-year-old is wanted in connection with a burglary in the Mount Pleasant area of Swansea, south Wales, in September.
One police officer said: “He’s a berk. Everyone in Swansea will know what he looks like now.
“He thinks he is being clever by showing off like this, but we’ll have him in soon.”
In a major police operation this week, police made 81 arrests for crimes including burglaries, assault and fraud.
Four of the eight suspects featured in the mugshots at the weekend were among those arrested.
